Driveway flower bed July 2019

One thing I did soon after we moved in was to dig a flower bed alongside of the driveway. I dug up the grass, mulched, and edged it with a line of bricks along the grassy side.

It is home to three peony plants, a salvia plant, lemon balm, some decorative onions, some irises, balloon flowers, a sedum, four small dianthus plants, and some daffodils and crocuses.

Right now the balloon flowers are blooming and they are beautiful!

In that picture, you can see the lemon balm really starting to take over and make a groundcover on the lefthand corner. I think that is great since I love the smell of that.

This was one month earlier in the season, early June, when the peony was just blooming. This is my favorite season for this bed tanks to that peony. The bed looks much tidier than it does now!

The peony was just starting to bloom, and the salvia was much smaller than it is now one month later.

And here is what the driveway flower bed looked like in 2017 the spring after I made it.  I think I dug it the previous fall 2016 and edged it with bricks.  I must have planted the daffodil bulbs in the fall of 2016.

The peony was so small then.  Now it is huge!

Peony is in bloom.  It is so much bigger now 2 years later!
I have been surprised how well that pink peony does in this spot.  It has grown so much over the past 2 years. The soil must be just right for a peony there as it has really thrived.
