Retaining wall garden bed August 2019

August brings some new blooms in the retaining wall garden bed.

The tropical looking Hibiscus plant, that somehow survives in Minnesota, has come back and is just starting to bloom!

Hardy hibiscus
Planted 2017.
Has survived and come back the past two years.

I love the huge flowers on this plant, and also that rabbits and deer leave it alone.  And I love that it looks completely dead in May and June, but starts to come back to life in July.  And August brings these beautiful flowers.

The summersweet bush is also in bloom now.  Bees love this plant!  It also smells great.  I like all the plants I planted in the retaining wall bed, but this is one of my favorites.

Doing well in 2019

And one of the mysterious daylily varieties I planted is also in bloom now.

Only mysterious because I forgot to record what it was.  It was from Menard's - so not really that mysterious.  Hopefully having this blog record will help me have less mystery plants around.
